Braemar Eco-Village

We are a community of people who choose to live sustainably. Sharing a kaupapa of wanting to walk lightly on the planet and to use our talents for the common good.

13 freehold title properties and an extra 3.6 hectares of communal land and buildings right in the heart of Nelson Whakatū.

Our mission is to co-create a place where people and land are nurtured, resources are shared and environmental ideals are championed.

To do that we aim to be:

  • A robust, vibrant and supportive community that is inclusive, equitable, and optimises the benefits of collective action.
  • A place where high environmental ideals are held and applied.
  • Whose business affairs are managed in a sound, responsible and considerate manner.

With our Everyone does their bit philosophy we regularly:

  • Care for children, ourselves and our families
  • Work in the veg garden
  • Sit on a team: Land, Infrastructure, Community
  • Have general meetings, take minutes, facilitate meetings
  • Tend to the animals: chickens, sheep, pigs
  • Do tree planting and care
  • Plan and undertake general maintenance
  • Connect with visitors, wwoofers, each other
  • Participate in regular working bees
  • Celebrate together with card nights, movie nights, house parties!
