Planting 600 natives with the Council

21 May 2022

A big THANK YOU to the 23 volunteers who helped get 600 native plants in the ground over the weekend in the Grampians Reserve.

The planting day was part of a larger ongoing project being delivered in partnership with Braemar Eco Village residents through Nelson City Council's Adopt a Spot programme.

The goal of the project is to create a bio-corridor linking the Grampians down to Nelson South. This corridor is an extension of the Nelson Halo, a safe area for wildlife that surrounds the The Brook Waimฤrama Sanctuary and expands into our urban environments.

If you missed this planting day, another one is scheduled for Saturday 28 May on the Brook Valley side of the Grampians where Council recently purchased a large block of land stretching from above Sowman Street to Hinau Street.

A total of 10,000 native plants will be planted this year to help restore it to native bush. Half of these will be planted by community volunteers, so we need your help!

Come and be a part of the first planting on this site and explore the many tracks of this exciting new addition to the Grampians Reserve.
